Equality and Diversity
Our vision for South Kesteven is to promote a district full of vibrant communities where people want to live, work and invest.
We believe that everyone should be treated fairly and with respect. Our commitment to equalities as a service provider and an employer is to remove unnecessary barriers and make certain that everyone enjoys equal access to our services and our buildings.
We ensure that information about our services is accessible to all. Where necessary we will produce documents in alternative formats, translating them into other languages or Braille on request and also producing them in large print or audio.
Our Equality Scheme (2011 - 2014) includes a social profile of the district and outlines our commitment to equality and diversity. It also sets out the equality objectives we aim to deliver during the life of the Scheme.
The progress we have made in achieving our equality aims during the year April 2011 to March 2012 is summarised in our Annual Position Statement.

Equality Act 2010
The Equality Act 2010 brought together all previous anti-discrimination law streamlining legislation and simplifying processes. It sets out the personal characteristics that are protected by the law and the behaviour that is unlawful. Our duty under the Equality Act is to show that we have given due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Act
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
Protected Characteristics include:
- Religion or Belief
- Sexual Orientation
- Gender reassignment
- Pregnancy and Maternity
- Marriage and Civil Partnership
Which, in a nutshell means us all - we are all protected by the Equality Act no matter who we are, no matter where we're from, no matter our lifestyle, no matter our belief system.
